Assessment

After completing the lessons — which are presented in text and video format — students’ complete problems, assignments, and tests electronically. Parents and students have instant access to grades and can quickly gain feedback regarding the student’s progress. Each day, teachers grade written work, such as essays and projects, and communicate grades and any comments to parents and students. Due dates and past due notices help students adhere to their weekly lesson plan.

On Site Student Enrollment

Students who join Serving Institute On-site will be given a bag that includes an enrollment packet.

The enrollment packet contains:

Online Dual Enrollment Program

Students in the Dual Enrollment program can begin taking college courses as early as the summer after 10th grade.
We recommend that students enroll in no more than 2 courses (6 credits) per sub-term (8 weeks) to ensure academic success.

Please note: During the summer, B and D sub-terms typically overlap.

Associate Degree Track Dual Enrollment Admission Requirements

  • Submit a current unofficial high school transcript or a homeschool transcript* showing the completion of 10th grade and the most up-to-date GPA (this can be a copy of an original transcript or a printout from the school’s website).
  • Demonstrate a record of academic excellence (3.0 GPA or higher).

A La Carte Dual Enrollment Admission Requirements

  • Submit a current unofficial high school transcript or a homeschool transcript* showing the completion of 10th grade and the most up-to-date GPA (this can be a copy of an original transcript or a printout from the school’s website).
  • Demonstrate a record of academic excellence (2.7 GPA or higher).

Associate Degree Track Dual Enrollment Admission Requirements

  • Students cannot enroll in classes until all admission requirements have been met.
  • Dual Enrollment students are enrolled through Serving Institute and are only allowed to take courses selected to meet the general education requirements of most colleges and universities.
  • Once a student earns a high school diploma, General Equivalency Development certificate (GED), or other high school graduation certificate, they will no longer be able to enroll in Dual Enrollment classes. Instead, they will need to apply to a college degree program (residential or online).
  • Students must take courses specific to completion of the high school diploma as a first priority. The A La Carte program limits the maximum credits a student can take to 36. However, with review and approval, the maximum can be increased to 60 credits.
  • Prior to enrolling in university courses, students must take math and English assessment tests. This helps us determine the best course placement for student success.
  • Students who fail a Dual Enrollment credit course may repeat the course one time. However, the student must pay the tuition for the repeated course. The original and second attempt grades are listed on the Serving Institute high school transcript and factored into the student’s overall GPA. If a student fails a second course, they will be removed from the Dual Enrollment program. The student may continue to enroll in high school courses. However, they cannot enroll in additional Dual Enrollment courses.
  • Financial Aid is not available for Dual Enrollment students.
  • Upper-level Dual Enrollment courses are only available for students in the Associate Degree Tracks.
